Native Americans, both men and women, wore moccasins from tanned leather long before Columbus discovered their land. We tend to know moccasins as one general type of footwear, however Native Americans used to be able to tell which tribe a person belonged to based on the moccasins they wore.

Tribal differences included not only the cut of the moccasins but also the extensive bead work, quill work, and painted designs many Indian people lavished on their shoes. In some tribes hardened rawhide was used for the sole for added durability, and in others rabbit fur or sheepskin was used to line the leather moccasins for added warmth. Heavier-duty boots called mukluks were the invention of the Inuit (Eskimos), who made them of sealskin, fur, and reindeer hide; some sub arctic Indian tribes adapted the mukluk style through trade or other contact with the Inuit, using caribou or buckskin instead. Now don’t you think that since Native Americans have been in the moccasin business for a while, they would still make the best product out there? The answer is yes. Authentic Canadian or Native American moccasins are still the best!

We try to cut corners and import cheap mock-ups and call it a moccasin, but these products do not last long, nor are they as comfortable as genuine Native moccasins. If you want a comfortable moccasin made of excellent quality you will have to buy from the inventors themselves.

Absolutely not! I roll with my moccasins in public all the time. Not only are they incredibly comfortable,
they can be very durable, if you buy the rubber or crepe sole. Also, Moosehide is a more durable leather for your moccasins, especially with a double sole.
